ACM is very pleased to partner with the Western Maryland Health System and the Community Wellness Coalition to present The 53rd Institute on Medicine and Religion: The Nature Fix.
Centuries of antidotal research is now being confirmed by scientific data that demonstrate how connecting with our natural world is a human need and has a myriad of benefits for physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Author and journalist, Florence Williams, will present this full-day program, which includes a copy of her award winning new book, The Nature Fix, for all participants.
In our increasingly digital and stressful world, Williams will outline the research which illustrates the positive impacts of spending time in nature – including reducing levels of stress and anxiety, lowering blood pressure and increasing our creativity and immune system. As health and human service professionals, time in nature should become part of our treatment toolbox.
Western Maryland has many challenges, but our natural environment is a rich and powerful asset. Regional experts and stakeholders will tie Williams’ work to our community, with panels focused on Nature & Mental Health, Children & Nature, and Nature & Community Planning. Weather permitting, an outdoor experience is also planned.
Join us for this rewarding day of training as we tap the power of nature to renew our sense of awe, wonder and well-being.
