Allegany College of Maryland’s Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development is excited to offer the 4th annual Summer Time Enrichment Program (STEP). STEP programs are designed to provide a summer of exciting, challenging and enjoyable STEAM driven experiences for kids ages 8 to 14.


Battle Royale: Make Your First Fortnite ® Style Video Game (STP030)

Fans of Fortnite we need you! Instead of playing the game, design your own. Using a professional 3D game development software, build levels and assets inspired by popular battle royale games like Fortnite. This course includes cartoonish action and battle sequences. Student-created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. The course cost includes access to Black Rocket’s programming.

Dream, Draw, Design and Dazzle: Graphic Design (STP012)

If stranded on a deserted island, Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign are three tools that many graphic designers would say they couldn’t live without. Explore firsthand the workflow of a typical graphic artist. Learn how to create vector graphics in Illustrator, work with images in Photoshop and bring them all together with text in a page layout application such as InDesign. Develop the basic skills that will allow you to design your own final project.


Jim House is an Associate Professor at Allegany College of Maryland where he serves as the division chair of Computer Technology. He has been teaching both computer technology and multimedia technology courses for over twenty years. As a graphic designer, he works extensively with such applications as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Animate, and Muse as well as Garageband and Audacity. Jim also works with HTML, CSS, PHP, Coldfusion and MySQL along with Javascript and ActionScript. When he is not teaching, designing, or recording, you can usually find Jim playing rock and roll on the weekends with his band Surrender Dorothy.

Gotta Sing Gotta Dance (C/S212)

GSGD is a fun musical theatre workshop for students entering grades 3-12. Students rotate between classes of singing, choreographed movement, visual arts, and acting. A free performance for parents, family and friends tops off the week. Cost includes art supplies and projects, music, t-shirt, and all classes. There is a 20% discount off of tuition for each additional family member

Bob Ross Painting (STP026)

You’ve seen him before. He’s the soft spoken guy painting happy clouds, mountains and trees. Join Dee Sullivan, an instructor certified by the Bob Ross estate, to learn basic Bob Ross wet-on-wet oil painting technique. You will take home a painting each day. Parents and invited to join students for graduation on the last day. Sizes of canvas may vary on different days. Caring for equipment will also be covered. The course cost includes Bob Ross kit. Please bring a small coffee can to class.
