Drone Pilot Training (VTE926) - New Course

Offered in partnership with Eye in the Sky Unmanned Aerial Systems, this 8-week course will provide the skills and knowledge you need to safely and legally operate an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), commonly referred to as a drone, either commercially or recreationally. Further, it will provide you with the necessary information required to pass the initial Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aeronautical Knowledge Test to obtain an FAA UAS Pilot’s license. Hands-on flying will enhance your knowledge by giving you the experience of flying a rotary-winged UAS, which will be furnished for your use while participating in this new training. This course focuses on the new rules and regulations regarding the operation of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) operating in the National Airspace under 14 C.F.R. Part 107. You will learn the responsibilities of being a Remote Pilot in Command with using the methodology of Crew Resource Management, Aeronautical Decision Making, and Risk Management to conduct a safe UAS operation. This course also provides the basic conditions, weather reports, basic aerodynamics, airspace use, reading aeronautical charts, airport operations, maintenance, emergency procedures, Certificates of Authorization and other pertinent information regarding the safe flight and operation of small unmanned aircraft. The course will include equal instructional time in the classroom as well as flying time outdoors and is open to anyone, regardless of skill level and recreational or commercial UAS Piloting interest.
