NRA Basic Rifle Training (VTE945) New | Allegany College of Maryland

This course includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.


Students must be 21 years of age to enroll and must bring a firearm and ammunition for the range portion of the course. Students may rent a firearm and ammunition from the instructor directly on the day of the course for an additional fee. (Firearm and ammunition must be locked in trunk of car in separate lock boxes while on ACM’s campus.) The extra time built into the course allows for travel to the firing range and one-on-one instruction on the range. Students should pack a lunch.
